On April 8, 2015, my son, AJ, was hit by a train as he walked to school. As I look back, I realize now how much I disconnected to the severity of what the death of my son meant to me. I, now, also know that I had to allow myself time to come to grips with how life without my son would affect myself and my family. Healing is two-fold, the mind accepting the new reality without your loved one and the heart filling in the valley of pain with love and memories. How this takes place is unique to every individual that experiences it. And even for the affected individual the path is not clear but is ever unfolding as we learn to live life again and redefine ourselves, without the physical presence of our loved one.
At the time, I worked as a Registered Nurse in Hospice, case managing clients faced with a terminal illness. In my role as an RN, I was part of a team that assessed and anticipated peoples end of life care needs. We used a holistic approach with the knowledge that when you deal with a person's physical, mental and emotional needs as a whole, it is more likely to have a much more positive outcome in assisting people to cope with the loss in a way that promotes healing. My sons' story marks the beginning of where this journey begins.
Today, I put these life experiences and skills in another direction. I have received my certification in Hypnotherapy from the prestigious Southwest Institute of Healing Arts "SWIHA." I am now currently enrolled in the advanced program to become a certified Medical and Dental Hypnotherapist. I am currently in the process of applying for membership with the American Board of Hypnotherapists (ABH) and National Association of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy (NATH).
During my time at SWIHA I have expanded my experiences and expertise of End-of-Life Care to Phobias, Relationship Issues, Anxiety, Post COVID Syndrome, Grief, Confidence, Performance, Stress, Self Esteem, Post Traumatic Stress, Pain succession, Loss of Loved One, Distress, Anger Management, Addictions and Motivation.
I invite you to join me on the road to healing and change.
